Exciting things can happen when enjoying a
beautiful morning on the deck with a cup
of coffee AND your camera.
We have three Pileated woodpeckers
in the woods behind our house but it's been
difficult to obtain photos of the family.
Here's the youngster, I think.

We have the great spotted woodpecker, here in the UK, and it's not dissimilar to yours in colour. Of all the birds which visit my garden, it is the shyest and seems to have eyes on the back of its head, for, as soon as I appear at my window...it's off!

My goal still is to get the pileated woodpeckers to land in my back yard. They have been in the neighbor's tree across the street but I have not got such nice pictures as you.
